Flames Beat Wings in a Wild One
The Calgary
Flames beat the Detroit Red Wings 10-7 in the highest scoring game of the year. Jarome Iginla was named the game’s first
star.
Sabres Beat Leafs in OT for First Win
The Buffalo
Sabres won their first game of the year by defeating the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-3 in overtime. The Leafs held a 3-0 lead at
the first intermission but were unable to score again as a third period Buffalo goal forced overtime where the Sabres would prove to be victorious.
Noord Presented With Gamer Cup
In a
ceremony held earlier this week, season one champion Noord was presented with the Gamer Cup as the inaugural champion. Click here for photos of the event.
Playoff Race Heating Up
At roughly
the half-way point of the season, six teams have jumped forward as serious Gamer Cup contenders, while four other teams appear
to be in a battle for the final two spots. Currently, all but the Ave’s and Wings are on the board with points but there
is still much to be decided.
Leafs Win Their First Game
The Toronto
Maple Leafs recorded their first victory of the season with a 6-5 win over the San Jose Sharks. Jeff O’Neil was the
first star in what will go down as the first win for Dyriw in the league.
Wild Beat Leafs in First-Ever Shootout
The Minnesota
Wild and Toronto Maple Leafs participated in the first ever shootout in league history with the Wild coming out on top 4-3.
It took 7 shooters for each team before hero of the night Alexandre Daigle finally beat Ed Belfour with a blocker-side wrist
shot. Each team traded goals in the three periods leading up to overtime which was back and forth for the whole five minutes.
Ave’s Drop Opener
With
a late start to their season, the Colorado Avalanche could not use the extra time to their advantage as they dropped their
first game to the Ottawa Senators 6-3.
Hockey Day in Computer Land
Saturday
saw some very busy action as seven games were played. The Wild beat the Wings 8-7. Pittsburgh
beat Calgary
7-4 and Detroit
6-3 while losing 9-2 to Phoenix
and 3-1 to San
Jose,
while Toronto
lost two games against Calgary
and Ottawa
by scores of 9-1 and 5-3 respectively
